TEHRAN Ministers of the Interior Abdolvahed Mousavi Lari and of Information Ali Younesi briefed members of Majlis in a closed-door session on recent Tehran University dormitory event and the subsequent unrest (July 8-14). Speaking to IRNA, Spokesman of the Presiding Board of Majlis Mohammad-Baqer Nobakht said the session had been held on a proposal made by 120 members of parliament after open session of Majlis on Sunday, August 1, on holding a closed-door session to survey different dimensions of the said events.
He said that Younesi had given first hand information about the events from security and intelligence points of view and postponed presenting final report on the issue until after receiving the report of the special committee in charge of investigating the events. He added that due to sensitivity of the issue, Majlis has assigned a research group, comprising MPs, to collect final reports on the issue and on agents behind the incidents and inform result of its investigation to the noble Iranian nation.
He said the session was held in a way that none of the political factions could exploit it for their ends and all political groups represented in the Majlis had to introduce an equal number of MPs for raising questions. The MPs questioned whether related organizations had taken action timely or there had been any shortcomings in decision makings or performances, said Nobakht, adding that the questions concerned especially the way the Law Enforcement had dealt with unauthorized rally.
He said that Minister of Culture and Higher Education Mostafa Moin is to attend the next (closed-door) session of Majlis on Tuesday, August 10, to present a report on the issue. Asked about the reason for absence of the Commander of the Law Enforcement Agency Brigadier General Hedayat Lotfian in the session despite invitation by Majlis, Nobakht said that since the Investigating Committee and the Supreme National Security Council are busy collecting more information, therefore, Lotfian did not want to say anything before completion of the committee's job.
Nobakht said in the meantime that Lotfian has announced that he is ready to attend the next closed-door session of Majlis slated for August 10. (IRNA)
