On Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held separate talks on various international issues with the UN secretary general and his European counterparts at the UN headquarters in New York.

In his meeting with the UN chief Antonio Guterres, the two sides discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, especially in Syria and Yemen, and the UN’s role in restoration of peace and stability through dialogue, according to Tasnim.

The UN secretary general expressed support for efforts to save the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the official name for the Iran nuclear agreement, urging all parties to honor their commitments under the accord.

In a separate meeting, Zarif and his German counterpart Heiko Maas discussed the future of the JCPOA and the necessity to preserve the deal.

The two ministers also talked about the situation in Syria and efforts to restore stability to the Arab country through political talks, according to the Foreign Ministry’s website.

They further weighed plans to enhance the relations between Tehran and Berlin in various fields.

Zarif also held talks with his Norwegian counterpart Ine Marie Eriksen Soreide. The talks between the two top diplomats revolved around the JCPOA, settlement of crises in Syria and Yemen, and plans to boost economic ties between Iran and Norway.
