TEHRAN – An Iranian border guard was killed on Monday in an armed clash with narcotics smugglers in Sistan-Baluchestan Province, southeastern Iran.

Major Rasoul Talebi was shot in the neck and died while being transferred to the hospital, Saravan’s Govenror Darvish Narouie said.

“About two tons of illegal drugs were confiscated by Iranian border guards and two smugglers were also killed,” Narouie was quoted by IRNA as saying.

“The clash lasted for three hours,” the governor added.
