Deceased Iranian artists commemorated

TEHRAN – The Iranian artists who passed away during the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2016-March 20, 2017), were commemorated during a ceremony at Tehran’s Eyvan-e Shams Hall on Wednesday.

A great number of artists, cineastes and cultural officials, including veteran actor Jamshid Mashayekhi, composer Mohammad Sarir and singer Abdolhossein Mokhtabad, attended the ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Iranian Artists Forum Director Majid Rajabi-Memar said that over 105 artists in various categories died during this year.

“76 Minutes and 15 Seconds with Kiarostami”, a montage film by Kiarostami’s close friend Seifollah Samadian, was screened during the ceremony.

In a short speech Samadian made after the screening of the film, he called Kiarostami unequaled in the Iranian world of art.

In addition, a book containing biographical information about the deceased artist was also unveiled at the ceremony.

Actors Davud Rashidi, Jafar Vali and Hassn Joharchi, and filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami are among the celebrated Iranian artists who passed away this year.
