Tehran museum to showcase works by Belgian artist Wim Delvoye

TEHRAN – The Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (TMCA) will be exhibiting works by Belgian neo-conceptual artist Wim Delvoye who is known for creating inventive and often shocking projects.

Some Iranian artists and art experts have been invited to the opening ceremony of the exhibit, which opens this evening.

Works from the treasure trove of the museum and metalwork by Iranian artisans in Isfahan will be showcased on the sidelines of the exhibition.

All exhibition spaces of the museum, including its nine galleries and courtyard will be dedicated to the show. This is the first time that the museum has provided such an opportunity for a non-Iranian artist.

The three-month exhibit will display Delvoye’s sculptures in the form of car tires and gas cylinders, a series of aluminum suitcases embossed with silver or brass, and the frame of a Maserati sports car decorated in a similar style.

Born in 1965, Delvoye is also known for his gothic style work. He creates oversized laser-cut steel sculptures of objects typically found in construction such as a cement truck.

The TMCA hosted a retrospective of German artist Otto Piene in 2015 and a show of works by the German sculptor and installation artist Günther Uecker in 2012.
