TEHRAN- Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines will increase the number of their direct flights to Tehran.

The German airline Lufthansa will launch flights from Munich to Tehran and also will boost capacity of its existing Frankfurt-Tehran service by switching from an A340 to a Boeing 747, according to the German aviation website aerotelegraph.

Also, Austrian Airlines, the flag carrier of Austria and a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, is expanding its flight service to Iran, offering one additional daily flight to Teheran starting on March 11, 2016.

As a result, Austria’s national carrier will be departing from Vienna up to twice a day to head for the Iranian capital. Austrian Airlines will also offer a day flight in addition to the existing night flights, according to the Aviation Tribune website.

Flights will be operated to Teheran deploying an Airbus 320.

“We are receiving clear signals of a revival in economic relations between Austria and Iran from the business community and political decision makers”, says Andreas Otto, the chief commercial officer of Austrian Airlines. “Here we wanted to react quickly.” 

An Austrian delegation led by President Heinz Fischer first visited Iran in September of this year after the nuclear deal was signed in July. This agreement serves as the basis for ending the sanctions imposed on the country. 

Mohammad Khodakarami, the deputy director of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization (CAO), said in April that some well-known European airlines have announced readiness to establish new flight routes or increase weekly flights to Iran.
