Iranian, Afghan think tanks to debate strategic ties

TEHRAN – Research centers from Iran and Afghanistan are slated to hold the first round of talks on strategic relations between the two countries, TNews reported on Sunday.

Head of the Strategic Research Center of Iran's Expediency Council Ali Akbar Velayati will lead the Iranian side during the two-day talks.

Velayati is also advisor to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The Afghan side is to be led by former foreign minister Rangin Dadfar Spanta.

Afghanistan's Center for Strategic Studies has announced that the talks aim to study the opportunities and threats in strategic relations between Tehran and Kabul.
