National program of cancer registry to be implemented in Iran

TEHRAN- An Official of the Health Ministry has said that now is a good time to organize research on cancer in Iran, IRNA reported recently.


Reza Malekzadeh who was making the remarks in the opening ceremony of a two-day workshop held on cancer registry said that 10 universities of medical sciences have joined the cancer registry program which will be great help in brining the disease under control.

He said that the procedure has been successfully implemented in Golestan Province, adding that the results have been published by IARC (International Agency for Research on cancer).

Golestan Province is located at north-east of Iran.

The representatives from medical universities of sciences from East Azerbaijan, Kermanshah, Markazi, Khuzestan, Hormozgan, Fars, Isfahan, Golestan, and Tehran provinces were present in the workshop to learn the standards and implement them in their provinces.

A cancer registry is a systematic collection of data about cancer and tumor diseases. The data are collected by cancer registrars who capture a complete summary of patient history, diagnosis, treatment, and status for every cancer patient
