Iran participates in IMF/WB conference

TEHRAN – Central Bank of Iran Governor Mahmoud Bahmani, leading a high-ranking delegation of economic officials, is taking part in the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) autumn conference in Istanbul.
The Mehr News Agency reported the World Bank holds two conferences a year, one in spring and the other in autumn, of which the latter is the chief conference.Hamid Borhani the deputy CBI governor for foreign exchange affairs, Behrouz Alishiri the deputy economy minister as well as the director of the Organization for Investment, Economic and Technical Assistance of Iran, and some other officials are part of the delegation visiting Turkey for one week.
Each year the minister of Economic Affairs and Finance would take part in the autumn conference but this year he had to miss the event due to his busy schedule.
On the sidelines of the conference Bahmani will hold meetings with his counterparts from other countries.
Istanbul is hosting the annual IMF/WB summit on October 2-7 at the Istanbul Congress Center. Around 15,000 delegates including the finance ministers from the G7 will attend the summit. World Bank President Robert Zoellick and IMF Managing-Director Dominique Strauss-Khan will also be present at the conference.
WB is an international financial institution that provides leveraged loans to poorer countries for capital programs with a goal of reducing poverty and IMF is an organization of 186 countries, working to foster global monetary cooperation, secure financial stability, facilitate international trade, promote high employment and sustainable economic growth, and reduce poverty around the world
