Larijani criticizes stance of new Italian government

TEHRAN (IRNA)-- Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani here on Sunday criticized the stance adopted by the new Italian government.
Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with outgoing Italian Ambassador to Tehran Roberto Tuscano in Tehran on Sunday.Italy has had a very close historical relations with Iran and the volume of trade exchange between the two countries is quite significant, therefore, the country should avoid taking stance which creates misunderstanding between the two sides, Larijani said.
At the meeting the outgoing Italian ambassador to Tehran at the end of his five year tenure congratulated Larijani on assuming the post of Majlis speaker and wished him success and prosperity.
Highlighting the two sides historical commonalties, Larijani called the two sides economic cooperation as very positive and said it is expected that trade exchanges would be increased.
Referring to regional cooperation between Iran and Italy, he voiced Tehran’s readiness to continue such cooperation.
Larijani underlined the significant and effective role of parliaments in expansion of all-out ties between the two counties and voiced the readiness of the Iranian parliament to continue parliamentary cooperation between the two sides.
The outgoing Italian ambassador, for his part, welcomed the views of the Iranian Majlis speaker.
Italy has always welcomed Iran’s leading role in regional developments mainly in Iraq and Afghanistan, he said.
He called for continued economic cooperation between the two countries and said Rome attaches importance to expansion of constructive ties with Tehran.
He described the two sides parliamentary cooperation as very positive and said parliaments could play a very active role in expansion of ties between governments.
