TEHRAN -- The spokesman for the National Confidence Party, Esmaeil Germai-Moqadam, on Tuesday blamed the reformist Islamic Iran Participation Party (IIPP) and Islamic Revolution Mojahedin Organization (IRMO) for the reformist movement’ failure in the latest parliamentary election.

He said reformists should back the leader of the NCP party Mahdi Karrubi if he decides to run for the next year’s presidential elections.
Gerami-Moqadam also said the reformists were responsible for Karrubi’s failure by supporting the candidacy of former science minister Mostafa Mo’in in the last presidential election.
Karrubi came third and Mo’in fifth in the first round of the 2005 elections.
Morteza Haji, the director of Rain Foundation, said if former reformist president Mohammad Khatami decides to contest the elections, Karrubi should not run for presidency.
“Many of the (political) figures believe that the Participation Party and Mojahedin Organization, by bringing Mostafa Mo’in to the ninth presidential contest, prevented Karrubi from winning the votes and this time they should learn from their mistakes and support Karrubi,” he told the Mehr News Agency.
Haji said that reformists need to study the reasons behind their failure in the last presidential election and agree on a consensus candidate for the upcoming vote.
He stated that the NCP has not yet decided to take part in the reformists’ meeting on Thursday aimed at formulating a common strategy for the 2009 election.
Germai Moqadam also said the party will declare its candidate in the early autumn
