Iran, Mauritania keen to expand ties

PARIS (IRNA) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Mohammad-Reza Baqeri and Mauritanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Ahmed Ould Sid’ Ahmed held a meeting in Mauritania's capital Nouakchott on Friday.

Baqeri attended the inaugurations ceremony of President Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi on Friday.

The Iranian official also pointed to his country’s potentials in various fields as well as its role in regional and international developments, calling for expansion of bilateral ties.

Sid Ahmed, for his part, appreciated the presence of Iranian delegation in the swearing-in ceremony of the president-elect of his country.

"We take pride in Iran's role, particularly when it comes to unity among Muslims.

"We also respect its attempts within the framework of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and the African Union, in particular, in issues related to Iraq and Lebanon," he added.

Sid Ahmed said that his country is fully prepared to bolster its relations with Iran an use its precious experience.

Turning to using Iran's industrial and economic experience as a favorable opportunity for Mauritania, he hoped that by holding trade fairs in his country Iran will introduce its products to the Mauritanian people.
