Iran, UAE discuss expansion of bilateral cooperation

DUBAI (IRNA) -- Iran's Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Hamid-Reza Asefi on Sunday held talks with UAE Interior Minister Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan on issues of mutual interest.

According to Iran's Embassy in Abu Dhabi, in the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on expansion of cooperation in different fields.

Asefi said that Iran gives priority to developing relations with neighboring countries, in particular the UAE, and considers the progress of the Middle East countries as major factor behind security and stability of the region.

"Stabilizing security of each regional country has direct impact on the security of the whole region," he said, adding, "Iran believes that regional states are able to guarantee security and peace in the Middle East by themselves."

The Iranian ambassador underlined that Tehran supports its the rights of its citizens living abroad, and called for two sides' cooperation in this respect.

The UAE interior minister, for his part, expressed satisfaction with expansion of mutual ties, saying that the Arab country regards Iran as its important neighbor.

Al Nahyan expressed his country's readiness to cooperate with Iran in various fields particularly in campaign against drug trafficking.

Iranians, who live in the UAE, have significantly served the country, and the Abu Dhabi government has always supported them in different situations.
