TEHRAN – Tehran mayor Alireza Zakani has unveiled a tourism atlas, which is a guide dedicated to showcasing the rich cultural heritage and tourism attractions of the city’s historic core, roughly corresponding to District 12.

The unveiling ceremony marked both the World Tourism Day and the commencement of Iran’s national tourism week, Mehr reported on Friday.

According to the Mehr News Agency, the atlas was developed by Tehran municipality’s public relations department of District 12 and was published with the approval of Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.

The event saw the participation of the mayor, the head of District 12, and several municipal officials

Ruhollah Daliri, the district’s director of public relations, emphasized that the tourism atlas serves as a crucial step in introducing the city’s historical and tourism significance. “District 12 is where the city of Tehran first began to take shape, and this atlas will help highlight its vast array of cultural and historical landmarks,” Daliri said.

Spanning 183 pages, the atlas is divided into 13 sections, covering everything from metro stations, clinics, cinemas, and parks to libraries, hotels, registered historical sites, museums, shrines, mosques, and other notable religious and historical places. Each entry includes essential information such as the building’s location, size, suggested visiting times, and QR codes for easy navigation.

Daliri noted that the atlas is a carefully planned and thoughtful project designed to present a global image of Old Tehran. It provides an easy-to-understand and detailed look at the city’s tourism offerings.

He added that promoting tourism plays a significant role in boosting the national economy, creating jobs, and fostering cultural and economic growth.

He noted that the book aims to make the city’s rich history and cultural landscape accessible to tourists and residents alike, offering a detailed guide for exploring one of Tehran’s most historically significant areas.

“The atlas will contribute significantly to identifying and locating Tehran’s historic sites and tourist attractions.”
