Tehran, Tbilisi to enhance cooperation in archaeology and restoration

Tehran – Iran’s Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts, Seyyed Reza Salehi-Amiri in a meeting with Georgia’s Minister of Culture, emphasized strengthening cooperation between the two nations in the fields of archaeology, restoration of artifacts, and exhibition activities.

The meeting was held during Salehi-Amiri’s visit to Tbilisi for the World Tourism Day summit held on September 27.

The Iranian minister, who arrived in Georgia on Thursday, was warmly received by Georgian government officials and Iran's ambassador to Georgia, Mehr reported.

During his discussions with Georgian minister Ioseb Baghaturia, Salehi-Amiri expressed Iran’s willingness to collaborate in the restoration of cultural objects, archaeological research, and sharing expertise in organizing exhibitions.

Salehi-Amiri highlighted the importance of fostering closer ties with Caucasus region countries, including Georgia, as a key priority for Iran’s Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts. He also underscored the value of exchanging knowledge and experiences between the two nations to enhance cultural and historical preservation efforts.

Baghaturia, in turn, acknowledged Iran’s rich cultural and civilizational contributions, expressing Georgia’s readiness to formalize cooperation through a memorandum of understanding. He emphasized Georgia’s willingness to expand joint activities in archaeology and restoration, highlighting the importance of such partnerships for both nations.

Salehi-Amiri’s visit to Tbilisi coincided with the World Tourism Day events, where tourism ministers and senior officials from various countries participated in ceremonies and discussions on September 26-27.

In addition to his attendance at the summit, Salehi-Amiri is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with high-ranking Georgian officials and his counterparts from other participating countries.
