Ardabil hits tourism milestone with two million visitors in ten days
TEHRAN – Ardabil, a mountainous province with lush landscape in northwest Iran, has experienced a tourism boom with about two million visitors over the past ten days, according to a local tourism official.
“The province welcomed approximately two million travelers over the past ten days, filling all accommodation facilities to capacity,” Hasan Mohammadi-Adib told IRNA on Monday.
The cities of Sareyn, Ardabil, Meshginshahr, Khalkhal, Nir, and Namin saw the highest influx of visitors, the official further explained.
“The number of museum visits in Ardabil has doubled compared to the same period last year,” he stated, adding that there has also been a noticeable increase in foreign tourist presence, attributed to the Ardabil 2023 events.
However, Mohammadi Adib identified a gap in marketing and promotion as the reason for lower tourist numbers in the northern parts of the province, despite the lack of infrastructure issues.
The official emphasized the need for enhanced promotion of tourist spots such as Germi, Parsabad, Bileh Savar, Aslan Duz, and Jafarabad and called on media outlets to play a more active role.
He also stressed the importance of investment in tourism infrastructure to attract and retain visitors, highlighting that the tourism department is working to leverage investor opportunities to enrich the province’s tourism capabilities.
Ardabil, known for its natural and historical attractions, including the Meshginshahr suspension bridge, Sabalan Mountain, Alvars ski resort, and Sareyn’s renowned mineral springs, remains a major destination for both domestic and international tourists.
In recent years, Ardabil has gained prominence as a tourism destination, particularly after being named the 2023 Capital of Tourism for ECO (Economic Cooperation Organization) member countries. This designation has helped boost its visibility on the international stage, showcasing its diverse attractions ranging from natural landscapes to cultural landmarks.
