TEHRAN – Atop a serene hill in the ancient city of Hamedan, stands the exquisite mausoleum of Baba Taher Oryan, a tribute to the illustrious Persian poet and Sufi mystic of the 11th century.

Overlooked by the majestic Alvand peak and lush landscapes, the mausoleum offers a breathtaking blend of nature and culture, drawing visitors from across Iran and beyond.

Baba Taher is mostly celebrated for his profound and mystical Do-beyti (quatrains), which have left an indelible mark on Persian poetry. His works are renowned for their simplicity, emotional depth, and spiritual insight, reflecting the essence of Sufism that emphasizes love, unity, and the search for truth.

Living during the era of Tugril and the Seljuk dynasty, Baba Taher is believed to have penned his quatrains in the local Hamadani dialect, offering a unique glimpse into the linguistic diversity of ancient Persia.

The current Baba Taher Mausoleum, completed in 1970, is a masterpiece of modern Persian architecture, designed by the esteemed engineer Mohsen Foroughi.

The mausoleum stands on a sprawling field of over one hundred thousand square meters, presenting a harmonious fusion of traditional and contemporary design elements. Its octagonal base, a common motif in Islamic architecture symbolizing balance and harmony, rises to a height of approximately 25 meters, creating a striking silhouette against the skyline.

The mausoleum contains a series of prisms with cleverly designed entrances and light holes, allowing natural light to illuminate the interior in a play of shadows and brightness, creating an ethereal atmosphere.
