Relics from the first millennium BC recovered in Kordestan
TEHRAN – Authorities in Kordestan have recovered some artifacts, dating back to the first millennium BC, following a tip-off about illegal trading in Sanandaj.
“The discovery followed reports from local citizens about the purchase and sale of historical items by an individual in Sanandaj,” said a local official in charge of cultural heritage. “The provincial protection unit promptly took action based on these reports.”
The authorities successfully recovered 17 historical artifacts from an identified local resident, Mansour Mehrzad added.
According to provincial cultural heritage experts, he further elaborated, 14 of the discovered items are of significant historical value, estimated to date back to the first millennium BC. However, three of the artifacts were determined to be counterfeit, the official continued.
Mehrzad further explained that the discovered artifacts were confiscated and documented, while the suspect was detained and their case referred to the judiciary for legal proceedings.
In his final words, Mehrzad commended the valuable efforts of the provincial authorities in their dedicated work to preserve and protect the region’s historical and cultural heritage.
