Kerman to launch museum of nomadic carpets
TEHRAN - Kerman province will establish a museum of nomadic rugs and handicrafts, in collaboration with the private sector, said a local official.
“Preserving and promoting the valuable heritage of nomads in producing handwoven textiles and rugs is essential,” said the local official in charge of handicrafts on Monday, adding that it can significantly impact employment, production, and trade across the province.
Saeed Shahrokhi emphasized the importance of preserving the cultural, artistic, and historical values of nomadic tribes amidst the evolving modern lifestyle.
The museum, he explained, aims to showcase the production process, preservation, development, and promotion of weaving techniques, as well as the designs and patterns of nomadic rugs and textiles.
The director-general further pinpointed that this initiative is being undertaken with the support of the private sector.
“The unique artistry of nomadic handwoven textiles is characterized by the diversity of weaving techniques and the beauty of the designs, patterns, and colors used,” Shahrokhi continued. “Kerman boasts one of the richest varieties of nomadic and tribal designs in its rugs.”
The art of weaving, he highlighted, has been a longstanding tradition among nomads, with techniques passed down through generations.
Each tribe and community has infused its culture and identity into their woven handicrafts, contributing to the rich diversity of designs and colors in nomadic textiles, the official concluded.
