Remarkably, Sustan wetland, devoid of natural origins, was created less than a century ago by locals to irrigate their agricultural lands.

Located near the village of Sustan, the wetland is approximately 5 kilometers southeast of Lahijan and around 50 kilometers southeast of Rasht, the province’s capital. Sustan borders the village of Kooh Bijar to the north and Lahijan to the south and west.

The word “Sustan” is derived from two parts, meaning “stone mountain” in Gilaki-local language-, taken from a village near the wetland.
