TEHRAN – Isfahan’s Natanz county has welcomed a team of experts from the International Scientific Committee on the Analysis and Restoration of Structures of Architectural Heritage.

On Friday, a provincial official in charge of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts revealed that the team traveled to Natanz aiming to pay visits to prominent historical buildings.

Detailing the visitation, Hossein Yazdanmehr outlined that the one-day visit had stopovers at the Jameh Mosque of Natanz and a Sassanid-era fire temple, to name a few.

“Getting to know the fundamental restoration method of the Sassanid Fire Temple is one of the major accomplishments coming from the ISCARSAH visit,” Yazdanmehr noted, “which has been lauded and verified by the group.”

The official also pointed to Sheikh Abdul Samad's tomb as another stop during the visit.

“After hearing the specialized techniques used for restoration and preserving methods within the historical site,” the official further explained. “The supervisor of the ISCARSAH team advocated that Iran's experiences in the conservation of these unique monuments be shared globally through the committee.”

Yazdanmehr also noted suggestions from the ISCARSAH group regarding the conservation of a unique inscription under the dome dating back over a thousand years to the late Daylamites and Buyid era, which has been revealed through recent restorations.

The group has recommended further studies and special conservation measures for this inscription, which are soon to be initiated by the Isfahan Provincial Department of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, the chief added.

“The experts expressed interest in acquiring more detailed information about the restoration of the Natanz Jameh Mosque,” Yazdanmehr added. “Prompting arrangements for providing additional data to the international group will be made soon.”

The International Scientific Committee on the Analysis and Restoration of Structures of Architectural Heritage (ISCARSAH) was founded by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in 1996 as a forum and scientific network of engineers, architects and scientists dealing with the structural dimensions of monuments and historical constructions.
