Tehran to host intangible heritage conference
TEHRAN – Tehran is set to host a regional conference on safeguarding intangible cultural heritage in early March.
Distinguished experts and representatives from member countries, including Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Lebanon, and Armenia have been invited to the session, which will be chaired by Ali Darabi, the Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts.
The event is scheduled to take place from March 5 to 7 at Laleh International Hotel, CHTN reported on Sunday.
Under the auspices of UNESCO, The Regional Research Centre for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage in West and Central Asia, the meeting is held twice a year to evaluate the effective implementation of annual plans within the region and discuss proposals presented by the attendees.
Iran joined the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage on 2006 with registering “Nowruz” as the first national intangible treasure.
Headquartered in Tehran, the Regional Research Centre for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage in West and Central Asia serves as a testament to Iran’s endeavors in the field of global heritage.
Established as a crucial entity in the preservation and promotion of intangible cultural heritage, the center plays a pivotal role in fostering collaboration among nations in the broader Asian region.
On June 27, 2023, Iran was elected as chair of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage for the Asia-Pacific Group, which brings to light the significance of this gathering.
