Discover Oben waterfall in northern Iran
TEHRAN - The Oben waterfall, situated some 100 km from Sari, the capital of Mazandaran province, is a natural wonder that enchants visitors with its breathtaking beauty.
Surrounded by lush greenery and pristine landscapes, this cascading waterfall invites nature enthusiasts and adventurers.
The height of the waterfall is about 1800 meters above the sea level.
The water of Oben waterfall is supplied from natural springs that are located upstream, and after flowing on the ground, it flows to Shirin River and then to Tajen River which eventually flows to Khazar.
It’s worth noting that the waterfall is located in the “Dodange” Protected Area, near the border of Semnan province.
The best season to visit this area is spring and early summer. Of course, this area becomes one of the most beautiful areas of the northern region in autumn as well, but due to the cold climate of this area, it is much more difficult to access the waterfall.
The Oben waterfall is located in Bola, one of the oldest Hyrcanian forests in Iran, boasting natural roots dating back up to 40M years.
The picture-perfect province has long been a highly popular destination for domestic travelers. Its varied nature features plains, prairies, forests, and rainforests stretching from the sandy beaches of the Caspian Sea to the rugged and snowcapped Alborz range, including Mount Damavand, one of the highest peaks and volcanos in Asia. More than 800 registered historical and cultural sites, 338 km of shoreline, mineral springs in jungles and mountains, waterfalls, and caves are among the major tourist attractions in the province.
Last September, Mazandaran’s governor general announced a development program to attract more foreign tourists, saying “We have set a goal to host two million foreign tourists per annum by the end of the current Iranian administration [of President Ebrahim Raisi].”
In terms of having diverse and numerous capacities in the historical, natural, and cultural fields, Mazandaran is the center of the presence of millions of travelers from within the country, but the fact that these capacities have remained unknown for potential foreign travelers, Seyyed Mahmoud Hosseinipour explained.
