TEHRAN – The Director of the Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts Department in Shirvan County made a significant announcement on Tuesday, revealing the discovery and confiscation of two gold coins and an egg-shaped historical vessel by law enforcement.

During the announcement, Hamid Razaghi provided details, stating, “Two gold coins dating back to the Islamic period and a historical vessel from the Qajar era were unearthed and seized through collaborative efforts with law enforcement in Shirvan County.”

Following the detention of the historical objects, the perpetrators were promptly handed over to judicial authorities for legal proceedings. Subsequently, the confiscated items were transferred to the Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts Department of the county for expert examination. This marks the initial step before sending them to the General Department of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts in North Khorasan Province for further authentication procedures.

Emphasizing the commitment to preserving cultural heritage, Razaghi highlighted, “The Protection Unit of the General Department of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts in North Khorasan maintains vigilant monitoring of historical areas across the province, ensuring day and night surveillance. Any reports or news of violations will be promptly investigated.”

North Khorasan is one of the leading provinces in the field of archeology and international excavations, which has been cooperating with the archaeological institutes of Germany, China, and the Louvre Museum, among several others, the official stated.

As the region gains attention, local travel insiders suggest that tourism in North Khorasan is steadily gaining momentum, presenting lucrative opportunities for the industry.

According to Lonely Planet, while many foreign tourists pass through North Khorasan in transit between Mashhad and Gorgan, the region's exploration is worth considering. For those with the time to delve deeper, diverting south from the capital, Bojnurd, towards Esfarayen offers notable attractions, including wrestling tournaments, the remarkable citadel of Belqays, and the partly preserved stepped village of Roein situated approximately 20km north. This diverse cultural and historical richness enhances the appeal of North Khorasan as a destination for both domestic and international travelers.
