Sunni lawmakers laud cultural coexistence, minister’s efforts for inclusivity

TEHRAN - A recent gesture from a group of Sunni lawmakers in the Iranian Parliament has highlighted Iran’s long-standing legacy of ethnic and religious coexistence.

In a letter addressed to Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Mehdi Esmaili, the MPs acknowledged his commitment to considering the capacities of the Sunni community within various cultural and artistic domains.

The representatives commended Iran as a historical testament to harmonious cohabitation among diverse ethnicities, emphasizing its embodiment of the constitutionally accepted principle of cultural diversity.

“Iran, the land of cultural coexistence for centuries, stands as a testament to peaceful cohabitation of diverse ethnicities alongside each other, recalling the accepted principle in the Constitution,” the letter affirmed, reflecting on the nation’s enduring commitment to fostering unity amid diversity.

They further illuminated Iran’s unique trajectory, wherein the peaceful coexistence of various religions and ethnicities has not merely been a norm but has evolved into a global model of harmonious cohabitation. The lawmakers lauded this mosaic of coexistence as a blueprint that has continued to strengthen national and Islamic unity, fostering resilience against divisive forces.

Moreover, the lawmakers expressed a collective hope that the Islamic world could overcome the challenges imposed by global arrogance seeking to sow discord among Islamic nations.
