TEHRAN – Tehran’s Shahr-e Rey district is to offer special tours to commemorate the epic of Sacred Defense on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of the Iraqi imposed war against Iran.

Organized by Shahr-e Rey’s tourism department, the tours will lead applicants to Sacred Defense Cinema Town and other war-related museums within the historical district from September 22 to 25.

Measuring 550 hectares in area, the Sacred Defense Cinema Town was established in 1994 as a unique venue for making films and series on the subject of war. Tens of movies, series, and short films have been made in it so far.

The 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq, known as ‘Sacred Defense’ in the Islamic Republic, was launched by the order of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein nearly 19 months after the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

Amongst many border cities directly involved in the 1980–1988 war, Khorramshahr is highly honored as a symbol of resistance during the war against Iraqi invaders. The port city is high on the ‘will go’ index of adventure travelers interested in such niche tourism.

The Sacred Defense Cinema Town is one of the dark tourism destinations that helps motivate visitors to guess stories of people who lost their lives, were displaced, wounded, captured, or lost their loved ones in bitter moments of mankind.
