Snowfall blankets most provinces
TEHRAN - A lot of snow fell overnight Friday and into Saturday morning in many parts of the country.
In addition to cleaning the air, it refills dams and makes rivers flow again. The snowfall also enriches underground water tables.
However, heavy snow has negative consequences as well such as agricultural damage, school closures, and road accidents.
Ahad Vazifeh, head of the national center for drought and crisis management, has said the country has received low rainfall in autumn and the situation will not drastically change over the cold season.
A temperature higher than the normal of the last 30 years is predicted, he said, ISNA reported on Friday.
The average rainfall in the country is 250 mm per year, which is one-third of the world average. But the figure has decreased to 232 mm in the last 13 years.
There is a possibility that precipitation reaches better rates in the second half of winter and early spring than in the same period last year.
In general, a rainy winter is not expected and the rainfall is likely to be less than normal, Vazifeh predicted.
