TEHRAN – The Research Institute for Cultural Heritage and Tourism considers conducting a series of archaeological studies on Hendurabi, which is a small island next to Kish in the Persian Gulf.

Follow-up excavations could draw more attention to Kish Island, so, this time, the Research Institute for Cultural Heritage and Tourism is to shift archaeological studies to [the neighboring] Hendurabi Island, the institute’s director said on Thursday.

Some five archaeological seasons have been conducted on Kish Island, and in particular on its Harireh, the ancient city, from 1977 to 2011, Mossayeb Amiri said.

“We are planning to change focus onto Hendurabi Island,” the official said.

Situated about 23 square kilometers between Kish and Lavan Island, Hendurabi is a flat land with no high mountains or hills.

When it comes to the southern Persian islands, people tend to choose Kish, Qeshm, and Hengam Island. However, Hendurabi is just as amazing as these, though less known. Being far from the constant visit of tourists, this sort of a remote island in the Persian Gulf has preserved many of its natural beauties.
