Hotel occupancy rate in Tehran plunges by 80%
TEHRAN—The occupancy rate of hotels in the Tehran province has plummeted by 80 percent, the head of the Tehran Hoteliers Association has said.
Due to a wave of unrest that engulfed the country in recent weeks, several hotel reservations across Tehran province have been canceled and the occupancy rate of Tehran hotels has tumbled by 80 percent, Mohammad Ali Farrokhmehr said on Sunday, Mehr reported.
The interruption of the Internet, as a means of tourism development, also caused several problems and issues for the hoteliers, he noted.
The government must pay hoteliers’ loans and consider extending these loans for a longer period to resolve this crisis, he said.
Following the death of a 22-year-old woman, Mahsa Amini, in hospital after she was taken by morality police for violating social dress codes, Iran has witnessed incidents of street violence over the past few weeks.
Tehran has many to offer its visitors including Golestan Palace, Grand Bazaar, Treasury of National Jewels, National Museum of Iran, Glass & Ceramic Museum, Masoudieh Palace, Sarkis Cathedral, Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, and Carpet Museum of Iran, to name a few.
