TEHRAN—The Qajar-era (1789-1925) Mashq Square (Parade Square) is planned to turn into a top tourist destination in the heart of the Iranian capital, CHTN reported on Wednesday.

After 18 years of suspension, the ministry of tourism is determined to implement reconstruction and organization plans for this complex, the report added.

The decision was made after President Ebrahim Raisi visited the historical site last week.

In addition, two historical buildings belonging to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a police headquarters will be handed over to the National Museum of Iran, which is located within the site.

The buildings will be turned into museums as a part of the organization project for Mashq Square’s remaining space.

Situated at the historical core of Tehran, the area known as Mashq Square is a Tehran must-see. You can easily spend a day visiting its different museums.

The site was once a military shooting range during the Qajar era. The area was then turned into a public park for a short time, and eventually, important governmental offices and museums were constructed around it.

Building number nine of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the University of Art, the Malek National Museum, the Post and Communications Museum, and the National Museum are situated in the compound.

Earlier this month, Tehran’s tourism chief Parham Janfeshan announced that a short-term plan is underway to make Tehran a top tourist destination in the country.

There is a two-year plan for Tehran to become the epicenter of tourism, which will last until the Iranian calendar year 1402 (March 2023-March 2024), he said.

Tehran offers many attractions to visitors from around the country, including entertainment centers, parks, historical centers, the historical core of the city, shopping centers, and tourist complexes, as well as several tours organized for travelers, he noted.

Moreover, to boost tourism infrastructure, a total of 17 tourism-related projects have been inaugurated across the province on the occasion of national tourism week (September 27-October 3), he mentioned.

The projects include eco-lodge units, traditional restaurants, tourist complexes, and apartment hotels, he stated.

Tehran has many to offer its visitors including Golestan Palace, Grand Bazaar, Treasury of National Jewels, National Museum of Iran, Glass & Ceramic Museum, Masoudieh Palace, Sarkis Cathedral, Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, and Carpet Museum of Iran to name a few.
