TEHRAN — Everyday 40 to 50 people in the country lose their lives on a daily basis in traffic-related accidents, an official with traffic police has said.

Police has taken various measures to decrease the number of traffic related deaths, and considering the current conditions of roads and the budget there is nothing much left to do, Fars news agency quoted Mohammad Hossein Hamidi as saying on Saturday.

Revising the traffic laws and adopting stricter laws, improving road conditions and increasing vehicle safety are essential to decrease the number of road crashes, Hamidi noted.

According to Iran’s forensics organization the number of traffic-related deaths occurred in the country in the first 8 months of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21, 2018) amounted to 12,261.

The number of individuals who sustained injuries in traffic-related accidents over the 8-month period was 259,988, the report added.
