Two more female ambassadors to be likely appointed

TEHRAN – Two more female ambassadors to foreign countries are to be probably appointed, MP Hamideh Zarabadi said on Sunday quoting Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif as saying.

In the past, the Foreign Ministry was male-oriented, however, several measures have now been taken to pave the ground for more women presence in the ministry, Zarif said in a meeting with members of the Women’s Fraction of the Majlis (Iranian parliament).
According to the Sixth Five-Year Development Plan (2021-2025), effort are made to eliminate gender discrimination, said the MP.
Members of the parliament are trying to hold meetings with all government ministers, Zarabadi, the spokesperson for Women’s Fraction of the Majlis further explained.
Marzieh Afkham who was the first female spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry was appointed as ambassador to Malaysia on November 8, 2015.
