TEHRAN – The first permanent handicrafts exhibit in northern Mazandaran province opened its doors to the public on Wednesday in Sari, the capital’s province.

Covering 400 square meters in area, the marketplace has been set up on the premises of the provincial tourism department and is considered as first of its kind in the province, CHTN reported.

It offers live workshops and also showcases ceramics and potteries, textiles, woodworks, marquetry, illuminated manuscripts, amongst others, all handcrafted by native artisans.

 Iran exported $280 million worth of handicrafts during the past Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20. Traditional ceramics, pottery vessels, handwoven cloths as well as personal ornamentations with precious and semi-precious gemstones are among Iranian exports to Iraq, Afghanistan and Germany, the U.S., the UK and other countries.
