Major handmade carpet expo opens in Tehran
TEHRAN - The 27th Iran Handmade Carpet Exhibition opened its doors to the public on Saturday at the Tehran Permanent International Fairgrounds.
Over 670 manufacturing companies and export businesses are attending the event, which is considered as the world’s largest handmade carpet exhibition with regard to the production standards both in terms of quantity and quality, Mehr reported.
Trade and commercial delegations from various countries have also scheduled to tour the expo, which is organized by the Ministry of Industry, Mining, and Trade, the report added.
Various-sized carpets rugs and tableau rugs weather newly weaved or rare ones have been brought together from every corner of Iran within 13 halls that cover some 50,000 square meters in area.
The fairground is concurrently playing host to the 30th National Crafts Exhibition in a bid to draw more visitors. Both events will be running through August 31.
“It is the second year that this event is to be held concurrent with the national carpet exhibition, which has brought many fruits for the household predominantly in the handicraft sales,” said Pouya Mahmoudian, a deputy for the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization.
The crafts exhibit features arrays of personal ornamentation, woodwork, illuminated manuscript, miniature, textile printing, enamel, leatherwork, handwoven textile, calligraphy, traditional musical instrument, metalwork, and marquetry to name a few.
