TEHRAN – Establishing direct Mashhad-Baku flights has been put on the agenda, Khorasan Razavi tourism chief has said.

“A plan to launch direct flights between Mashhad and Baku is being pursued to implement policies set by the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, which outlines attraction of travelers from Azerbaijan,” Hamshahrionline quoted Abolfazl Mokarramifar as saying on Saturday.

Some 28.5 million travelers and pilgrims including some 1.7 million foreign nationals visited the northeastern province during the first 11 months of the past Iranian calendar year (started March 2017).

Mashhad is deemed as the holiest city in Iran embracing the shrine of the eighth Shia Imam, Imam Reza (AS), and is the capital of Khorasan Razavi province.
