TEHRAN — Tehran city council has named Naft (oil) street after Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh.
Mosaddegh is very well-known for his efforts in nationalization of the Iranian oil industry in 1951. Prior to the nationalization of the industry it had been under British control since 1913 through the Anglo-Persian Oil Company.
The Iranian politician was the head of a democratically elected government and held office as the Prime Minister of Iran from 1951 until 1953. His government was overthrown in a coup d'état aided by the United States' Central Intelligence Agency and the United Kingdom's Secret Intelligence Service.
He passed away in March 1967.
