TEHRAN -- For the third time in Iran, hypnosis was used for childbirth operation at a hospital in the city of Mashhad, northeast of the country.

The first-time mom gave birth to a 3.150-kilogeram girl under hypnosis on Saturday, IRNA news agency reported. 

The hypnobirthing was pain-free and quicker than usual, Dr. Mehdi Fat’hi, the secretary of Iranian Scientific Society of Clinical Hypnosis, said.

Fortunately, the mother and the infant are in full health, he added.

Hypnosis for childbirth has been one of the pain-free techniques of delivery for the last 30 years in many countries and it has many advantages, Fat’hi said.

It decreases the pain of normal delivery by 80 to 100 percent.

Hypnosis for childbirth can help women have a gentle, enjoyable, pain-free birth by not taking medicine during the delivery and it has no side effects, Fat’hi explained.

The Iranian Society of Clinical Hypnosis was founded in 1990 with the aim of promoting the use of hypnosis in different areas of medicine. 

It has joined the International Society of Hypnosis in line with the goal of increasing relations of Iranian therapists with the world.
