115-year-old Iranian craftswoman honored

TEHRAN – Mahnesa Shahsavarpour, 115, who is believed to be the eldest craftswoman in Iran, was honored with a lifetime achievement prize.

During a ceremony held on the sidelines of the 28th National Crafts Exhibit in Tehran on Saturday, Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization’s Deputy Director Bahman Namvar-Motlaq presented the award to Shahsavarpour as the eldest surviving female artisan in the country, Mehr reported on Sunday.

Native to Sirjan, an ancient city in southeast Iran, Shahsavarpour has been involved in handcrafting embroidery, kilim carpets, and needlework over the past 90 years.
