TEHRAN – A traditional textile center was inaugurated in a historic neighborhood of Yazd on Friday in a bid to liven up the venerable skills of the ancient city.

Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization Director Zahra Ahmadipour accompanied by several local officials attended the cutting-ribbon ceremony, CHTN reported.

Brocade and termeh are amongst richly decorative fabrics, which will be produced in the center.

According to Encyclopedia Britannica, Since Sassanid era (224–651) Yazd has been famous for beautiful silk textiles that were rivaled in later periods only by those of Kashan and Isfahan.

The city is still a major center of silk weaving.
