TEHRAN —Iran has started issuing special registration plates for diplomatic cars, Mehr news agency reported on Wednesday.
Traffic Police Chief Taqi Mehri said there are some 23,000 diplomatic cars in Iran which will be recognized by the letters according to their use with letter “D” assigned to embassies’ cars and letter “S” to the services and the embassies representatives.
He also added that the new special license plates will replace the old ones with the same font as the public and private cars.
It is decided that all cars, either belonging to the diplomats or armed forces, should use the newly designed license plates and the police forces are the first to use the special number plates among the other organizations, he noted.
