Southern Iran being hit by dust storms

TEHRAN — Two southeastern and southwestern provinces of Iran have been dealing with consistent dust storms since last week, ISNA news agency reported.

Central Iraq and Syria are the sources of these storms, Zia-e-din Shoaei, the director of national working group for combatting dust storms, has said.

The director of Sistan-Baluchestan province meteorological department, Ali Mollashahi, warned that dust particles have reached an alarming level be becoming 18 folds.

Khuzestan province is also struggling with the phenomenon which made the local authorities to shut down schools on Sunday.

Additionally flights at the Abadan and Ahwaz airports got canceled due to the poor visibility caused by increased dust in the air.
