TEHRAN – A successful woman is the one who is effective both at home and in the society, and Shahindokht Molaverdi, the Iranian vice president for women and family affairs enjoys both of them, said Maha El-Adawy, the representative of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Iran, here on Wednesday.
Criticizing the West’s criteria for evaluating successful women, El-Adawy noted that Western women who are introduced in international conferences as successful ones are mainly beautiful and unmarried women.
However, a perfect woman is the one who is not only successful in social fields but also is a good wife and an ideal mother, Mehr news agency quoted El-Adawy as saying, referring to Molaverdi as a woman who meets all these criteria.
Western women have forgotten their families and they are only successful in social fields, while women are responsible both toward their families and their society, she added, underlining that the first person who converted to Islam was a woman.
There is no discrimination between men and women in Quran, El-Adawy said, adding Western women are the representatives of their countries but a Muslim woman is the representative of the world of Islam.
In order to preserve Islamic values, Muslim women should be empowered, she emphasized.
