Road fatalities in Iran down by 2.7 percent

TEHRAN — The number of road fatalities declined by 2.7 percent in the first eight months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-November 21), compared to the same period last year.

Last year in the same period 12,198 died in road accidents while in the current year 11,866 lost their lives which indicates a 2.7 percent fall, the Iranian Forensic Medicine Organization announced, the Fars news agency reported.

Of the reported deaths, 9,082 were men and 2,784 were women.

Fars, Khorasan Razavi, and Tehran provinces reported the highest fatalities with 1004, 987, and 848 deaths, respectively.

Meanwhile, Ilam, Kohgiluyeh-Boyerahmad and Ardebil provinces reported the least fatalities with 97, 125, and 141 deaths, respectively.

Sadly, the casualties have increased in the eighth Iranian calendar month of Aban (October 23-November 21) by 2.3 compared to the same period last year.
