TEHRAN - The Islamic Republic of Iran Meteorological Organization has warned about a dangerous increase of dust in at least four provinces of the country, which it said will continue till Saturday.
Satellite images show a large mass of dust over Iraq which will enter the south and southwest of Iran and reduce visibility over the next three days, IRIMO announced on Wednesday. The increase of dust will gradually appear in Kermanshah, Ilam, Khuzestan, and Bushehr provinces and then it will extend to the western, central, and southern Zagros regions and darken the sky, the meteorological organization statement added.
IRIMO has also advised people with an allergy to dust to avoid unnecessary travel.
Particles picked up by the wind can remain suspended in the air and add to the atmospheric dust load. If severe enough, this dust pollution can decrease visibility and become a health hazard, particularly affecting people with respiratory problems.
The dust arising from deserts in Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Syria has covered the southwestern provinces of Iran on several occasions but is now affecting large swathes of Iran.
