Tehran hosting colored-egg festival

Citizens paint massive egg-shaped statues in an arts festival being held in several neighborhoods across Tehran, March 13, 2019. Tehran Municipality’s Beautification Organization sets up the event days before Noruz, the Iranian new year, starts. Iranians have long used painted eggs – symbolizing life and fertility – to decorate their Haft-Seen spreads, an arrangement of seven symbolic items all of which start with the letter ‘S’ in the Persian alphabet as a gesture to salute new year.
