Shiraz, Qatar Universities Assess MOU

SHIRAZ, Fars Prov. -- Ways of making the contents of the memorandum of understanding signed between Shiraz University and Qatar University was discussed in a meeting of a number of university officials at Shiraz University on Saturday.

Shiraz University Chancellor, Majid Ershad, told IRNA that broadening cultural and scientific ties between the two universities, exchange of professors and students and optimal exploitation of mutual research potentials were among the issues discussed at the meeting.

According to Ershad, the session planned programs for arranging special courses, training specialized manpower and offering short training courses by Shiraz University at Qatar University, IRNA reported.

"Preparing the grounds for arranging complementary courses, holding scientific seminars and drawing up suitable research projects are among the provisions of the MOU," he said.

He added that scientific and cultural memoranda of understanding between various faculties of both universities have also been planned.

The scientific and cultural MOU was signed between the two universities at Shiraz University two years ago and a few of its articles are in the process of becoming operational.

The session was also attended by the deputy chancellor of Qatar University Abdul-Rahman Hassan Ibrahim, Head of Qatar University Faculty of Sciences Abdullah Hassan al-Kabissi and Head of Qatar University Faculty of Technology Nabil Hassan ol-Salem.

Qatar University comprises six faculties of educational sciences, human sciences, jurisprudence and law, management and accounting, engineering and sciences.

Its faculty has 400 members and 9,000 students are currently studying in the university.
