TEHRAN Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi reiterated that the Zionist regime is posing a serious threat to the strategic Middle East region. The Iranian minister made the remark in the second round of his talks with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal in Riyadh Saturday. Kharrazi also underlined that the region should be free from any weapon of mass destruction and that the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and the Arab League should be further activated.
According to an IRNA report, the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Iran expressed regret over the discriminatory measures taken with regard to annihilation of weapons of mass destruction belonging to the usurper Zionists regime as being an illogical approach. Regarding the expansionist policies of the Zionist entity and it attempts to deviate the world opinion from the danger of nuclear weapons, Kharrazi said, The regional countries should be serious over the issue which is related to the security of the Middle East in the future and that the countries of the region should cooperate closely to make the region a nuclear free.
The Saudi foreign minister fully concurred with his Iranian counterpart in this regard. The two sides underlined that the most important critical issues in the Muslim world were the Afghan crisis, the Middle East problem and strengthening of Muslim solidarity in the world. Both Saud al-Faisal and Kharrazi expressed concern over the instability in the region and widespread smuggling of narcotics from Afghanistan with the negative effect it has left in the region.
The two foreign ministers shared common views on the OIC proposing solution for Afghan crisis. Referring to the negative impact of drug trafficking and instability in the region, Kharrazi said that the regional countries neighboring Afghanistan should cooperate in order to prevent the spread of instability and the flow of narcotic drugs through the regional countries to Europe.
