TEHRAN Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi arrived in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Saturday with a message from President Mohammad Khatami for Saudi leaders. Kharrazi was warmly welcomed at the airport by his Saudi counterpart Saud al-Faisal. The Iranian foreign minister handed over the message to Saudi Crown Prince Abdallah ibn Abdel Aziz. The message concerned the warming of ties between the two Persian Gulf neighbors.

The Iranian foreign minister was due to leave the kingdom later in the day for the Persian Gulf emirate of Qatar, which is hosting a ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) between Sunday and Wednesday. The Islamic Republic of Iran currently holds the presidency of the OIC and the conference will take up the resolutions passed during an OIC Summit in Tehran in December. Former Iranian President Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani last week concluded a 15-day visit to Saudi Arabia, during which he held talks with Prince Abdallah and King Fahd.
