Leader: Hajj Reforms Muslim Ummah, Transforms Islamic World

TEHRAN The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, here on Wednesday referred to Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca) as a standout amongst all Islamic rituals in terms of its individual and social aspects. Addressing the Hajj officials, the Leader stated that spirituality and devotion to God constitute the genuine supports for any nation's political, social and material affairs. Highlighting the importance of attention to all individual and divine aspects of the Islamic ritual, Ayatollah Khamenei added if inexhaustible spiritual potential of Hajj is utilized properly, only a single pilgrimage will suffice in reforming a human being's life.

From the social point of view, the ritual can go a long way in reforming the Muslim Ummah as well as transforming the world of Islam, the Leader said. The Iranian pilgrims bear the important responsibility of explaining the greatness of Muslim Ummah, stressed the Leader, adding when the Iranian nation realized its capabilities and decided to stand up to the world's great powers, they got on their knees militarily, politically and economically.

Pointing out that the Iranian nation comprise only a small part of Muslim Ummah, the Leader continued if Muslims realize their potential and capabilities and subsequently choose to stand up, not a single power can stand up to them. Ayatollah Khamenei further enumerated enhancing Muslim unity and advocating the inseparability of religion and politics as other objectives of the pilgrims. Among the necessities to help achieve the goals and to influence other pilgrims is full observance of Islamic ethics.

The Iranian pilgrims should display the depth of the Islamic faith in the spirit and life of the Iranian nation, said the Leader. However, he stressed, observance of ethics and leniency by no means translate to foregoing the duties such as disavowal of pagans. Prior to the Leader's speech, the official in charge of the Iranian pilgrims Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Rayshahri presented a report on preparations for proper implementation of this year's Hajj ritual.
