TEHRAN The Cyprus News Agency (CNA) announced on Friday that the permanent mission of Cyprus to UNESCO has submitted the document for the accession of the country to the Ramsar convention on wetlands, which was signed in 1971 in Iran and provides the framework for national and international cooperation for the conservation and wise use of wetlands and their resources.

CNA added that Cyprus had indicated the salt-lake of its coastal town of Larnaca as a wetland that could be included in the list of wetlands of international importance, which contains some 900 wetlands from all over the world, IRNA reported.

The convention has been ratified by all member states of the European Union, all EU associated countries and all the Mediterranean countries, the report added.
